RAWALPINDI: A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at RA Bazaar police station against two policemen after they tortured a man named Mansoor to death.
Saddar SHO inspector Raja Akhtar and Sub-inspector Bilal have been suspended after they were found to be involved in the torture case.
The victim Mansoor was detained illegally for four days by the police according to the FIR registered against the two policemen. There was, however, no case registered against him.
Mansoor was shifted to the hospital soon after his condition worsened.
Protests were held by his family members and friends in different areas of the city soon after his death. After public pressure increased, an inquiry was launched to investigate the incident.
Previously , a 23-year-old man in Rawalpindi died in police custody in February. Police brutality is not unusual in Pakistan.
