ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Wednesday held a meeting at the PM house with National Assembly’s (NA) Opposition leader Khursheed Shah regarding the matter of interim government holding the office once the current government’s tenure ends.
The leaders shared their suggestions for the caretaker PM after consultation from ruling party’s, allies and the opposition.
As per sources, both the leaders shed light on the current political situation as well the annual budget to be announced in May.
Shah had previously announced on Monday that the opposition has yet to name their nominees, after the second meeting with PM Abbasi regarding the election of caretaker PM.
He had stressed that electing the right caretaker to ensure free and fair elections is significant as it will decide Pakistan’s fate for the next five years.
Shah while addressing the media on Monday had said that we all have to safeguard democracy so if the PM and opposition fail to elect a caretaker, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will decide a caretaker PM from the nominations.
