Keeping in view the handling of desert locust emergency situation in the country, the Department of Plant Protection, Ministry of National Food Security & Research, has already initiated work on trials of bio-pesticides and other related management measures. The department has also notified regional focal persons to undertake research studies in Punjab, Sindh & Balochistan provinces. The focal persons are namely Dr Ghulam Jillani of Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water & Marine Sciences Balochistan, Dr. Riffat Sultana of University of Sindh Jamshorro & Dr. Jalal Arif of University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Meanwhile, Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research Khusro Bikhtiar, Secretary Federal Ministry of Food Security & Research Hasham Popalzai, Chairman NDMA Lt. General Muhammad Afzal, DG Plant Protection Dr. Falak Naz & Food Commissioner Dr. Syed Waseem ul Hassan have assigned tasks to focal persons academia to come up on war footings to combat the menace of Locust attacks which has damaged crops, vegetables & trees in the country.
